간문화 학습의 이론적 기초와 학습 과정 = A Study on the Theoretical Basis and the Process of Intercultural Learning

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리 나라에서는 소위 '단일 민족의 신화'가 아직도 사회적으로 중요한 기능을 수행하고 있지만, 세계적·지방적 수준에서 점차 여러 다른 문화와 접촉하고 있으며, 앞으로는 그 관계가 더 다양해지고 복잡해질 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 타문화와의 관계를 보다 더 건설적으로 처리하고 해결하기 위한 교육적인 방책의 하나인 간문화 학습에도 더 많은 주의를 기울여야 할 것이다. 이러한 문제 제기에서 출발하여 본 논문에서는 간문화 학습의 개념과 이론적 기초, 그리고 학습 목표와 학습 과정에 대하여 고찰한다.
이러한 연구 목적에 부응하기 위하여, 먼저 간문화 학습의 개념에 대하여 설명한다. 그 다음에 간문화 학습의 이론적 기초로서 문화적 접촉이 이루어지는 문화적 '교차 상황'과 간문화적 의사 소통의 특징에 관해 언급하고, 문화의 개념과 문화화 현상에 대해 살펴본다. 그리고 (자)문화 중심주의의 현상과 그 특징을 지적하고, 이와 관련하여 문화 학습의 문제점들을 알아본다. 이러한 문화 이론적 기초 위에서 간문화 학습 목표로서의 간문화 능력에 관해 서술하고, 끝으로 '(자)문화 중심주의에 대한 가정'에서 출발하여 타문화에 대한 이해, 문화적 선택의 폭 확대, 문화적 갈등의 건설적 해소를 지향하는 간문화 학습 과정에 관해 논의한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Although in our country the so-called `myth of a single nation (or ethnicity)' plays so far a socially important role, Korean people gradually contact with many other cultures on the global as well as on the local level. And we anticipate that the relationship between our own culture and other foreign cultures will be more diversified and complicated in the future. Therefore, we should also pay a more attention to the intercultural learning, which is an educational course of action to address and resolve the relationship with other cultures more constructively- Based on the awareness of such a problem, the purpose of this study is to observe the concept of intercultural learning, its theoretical framework, the goal and the process of the intercultural learning.
The sequence of the discussion is as follows:
First, this study begins with an explanation of the concept 'intercultural learning'.
Second, we deal with the framework of cultural theory for the intercultural learning. Here we discuss mainly (1) the characteristics of the cultural `cross (or overlapping) situation' and intercultural communication, (2) the concept of culture itself and the phenomena of enculturation, and (3) the phenomena and features of 'culture-centrism' and the problems of cultural learning in general in connection with these phenomena.
Third, on the theoretical basis about the cultural phenomena and cultural learning, the study describes the intercultural competence as the ultimate goal of intercultural leaning.
Fourth, we address finally the intercultural learning process; which starts with `the assumption of the culture-centrism' and is oriented toward the understanding of other culture(s), the expansion of cultural options and the constructive resolution of cultural conflicts.
