      Generally, existing building structures were not considered earthquake loadings in Korea. It is reasonable well-grounded that earthquake ground motion is infrequent occurrence up to recently. However, they can lead to fatal mis-judgement because earthquake ground motion is randomness.
      The purpose of this research is to compare and apply the sections of current seismic design provisions which deal with the specification of seismic design forces. As a numerical examples, the shear-wall building was used and analytical tool used ETABS program.
      The Korea code(1987), UBC(1994), NEHRP(1988) and BSLEO(1981, Japan) seismic
      provisions are included in the discussion.
      As a result of this study, the wall area of horizontal direction are insufficient compared with vertical direction result from sunshine and prospect and this default bring about weakness of structural safety in shear-wall apartment. In case of ground acceleration, Korea code has been considered low value(0.08g-0.12g) than Japan code(0.2g-1.0g) and EI Centro ground motion (about 0.35g). As a hope of the further research, seismic evaluation method of existing building structure should be suggest.
