The purpose of this study is to propose a practical intervention plan for the battered women to help their social adaptation and to reveal self-reliance factors. For the research I selected 8participants who had ever experienced domestic violence and self-reliance by purposive sampling method as target sample. The raw data was analyzed by Mandelbaum`s conceptual frame; dimension of life, turning point and adaptation. In analysis of the dimension of life, home, offspring, occupation and self-help group were represented as important factors. Home was interpreted as the field that the subjective life was realized, offspring as the prop of one`s life leading the cutting of violence, occupation as the reconstructive means of the life, and self-help group as the seed was revealed potential energy and sociality through symbiosis with others. Also, education, social support and modelling had an effect on battered women as factors of the self-reliance. In analysis of the turning point, the common theme came out as the recovery of self through reconstruction of one`s life. Adaptation was analyzed as fellows: 1)living with taking a risk of learned helplessness 2)trying hard to hug a child 3)compromising with gloomy realities. Based on the findings, this study suggested practical guidelines to help their self-reliance life and adaptation.
