질적 연구방법으로서 근거이론의 철학적 배경과 방법론적 특성에 대한 고찰

The aim of this paper is to suggest philosophical and methodological knowledge and understanding of the grounded theory as qualitative research method to education researchers. For this purpose, we examined epistemological and ontological premises of pragmatism and symbolic interactionism, which has philosophical backgrounds of grounded theory methodology(GTM). Also, we examined Glaser & Strauss(1967)’s “Discovery” as a prototype of GTM, and scrutinized respective ramifications(Glaserian, Straussian, Charmazian, SA of Clarke) and issues of GTM. In addition, this paper articulates discriminative analytic procedures, such as open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. It also comprehensively examined evaluation criteria of GTM products for capturing methodological characteristics. The results of this paper will be a methodological cornerstone to promote qualitative education research through suggesting methodological implications on the GTM to education researchers.
