역설의 논리적 분석과 그 철학적 함의

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 철학사에서 등장했던 여섯 가지의 중요한 역설들의 논리적 구조를 엄밀하게 밝히고, 그와 관련된 다양한 논쟁을 정리하여 각각의 역설에서 가장 유력한 해결책을 찾기 위해 노력하고, 나아가 역설과 그에 대한 해결책이 어떤 철학적 함의를 가질 것인지 검토하였다. 이러한 목적을 수행하기 위해서 각 연구원은 다음의 세부 과제를 집중적으로 검토하였다: 집합론의 역설(정인교), 의미론의 역설(이종권), 함의의 역설(양은석), 규칙의 역설(박만엽), 시간의 역설(김한승), 지식가능성의 역설(이병덕). 각 역설들이 모두 공통적인 근원을 가지고 있다거나 공통적인 논리적 형식을 지녔다고 할 수는 없지만, 이들이 제기하는 의미론적, 인식론적 및 형이상학적 문제들을 해결하기 위한 방식들은 크게 나누어서 실재론적 시각과 반실재론적 혹은 구성주의적 시각으로 분류될 수 있었다. 집합론의 역설과 관련하여, 더밋의 직관주의적 접근방식을 형이상학적 전제에 의존하는 전통적인 구성주의적 접근방식과 비교하며 분석하고 평가하였다. 의미론적 역설과 관련하여, 전통적인 타르스키와 러셀의 계층이론들을 크립키의 고정점이론 및 굽타-벨납의 진리수정론과 비교하며 분석하고 평가하였다. 함의의 역설과 관련하여, 연관논리에 관한 루트리-마이어 의미론을 분석하고 발전시켰다. 규칙의 역설과 관련하여, 크립키의 규칙따르기 역설을 비트겐슈타인의 원래 논증과 비교하며 비판적으로 평가하고 비트겐슈타인의 원래 논증의 함축을 조명하였다. 시간의 역설과 관련하여, 맥타가트의 시간의 비실재에 관한 논증과 이에 대한 논의들을 분석하고 올바른 해결 방식을 제안하였다. 지식가능성의 역설과 관련하여, 기존의 해결책을 비판하면서 구성주의와 상충되지 않는 새로운 해결책을 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this project, we study six paradoxes which have raised great controversies in logic, epistemology and metaphysics. They are paradoxes of set theory, semantic paradoxes, paradox of material implication, Wittgenstein's and Kripke's rule-following paradox, Mctaggart's argument for the unreality of time and Fitch's knowability paradox. We analyzed the paradoxes and evaluated the major approaches to them specially attending to philosophical implications of the paradoxes. In some cases, we tried to suggest our own new solutions to the paradoxes. For paradoxes of set theory, we critically examined Dummett's approaches in comparison with other constructive approaches. For semantic paradoxes, we critically evaluated the traditional hierarchial approaches and recent non-hierarchial approaches. For the paradox of material implication, we analyzed the Routeley-Meyer semantics and developed it for further applications. For Kripke's rule-following paradox, we critically examined Kripke's argument in comparison with Wittgenstein's original argument. For Mctaggart's argument of the unreality of time, we critically examined various approaches and suggested our own. For Fitich's knowability paradox, we criticized some approaches and suggested our own solution compatible with the constructivism.
