노인의 노후준비와 삶의 만족도에 관한 연구 : 익산시 노인을 중심으로 = A Study on the Attitudes to Preparations and Life Quality of the Aged in Iksan City

Recently the population of the aged is increasing rapidly as a result of better living conditions and the advancement of medical technology in Korean society. Compared with other developed countries, the speed of ageing rate is unprecedentedly high. Rapid ageing society means that the old age period is delaying and the aged must prepare the provisions for their long lives.
However, Korean strong tradition of family support for the aged has weakened due to social changes such as urbanization and women's participation in economic activities. Therefore, the aged face the need of care and support for senility, chronic illness and income maintenance. Two facts, rapid aging society and weakening of the tradition of family support, mean that effective and feasible social welfare systems for the aged is necessary in Korean society.
In order to provide social welfare systems for the aged, there should be scientific and objective data about current conditions of old age lives and self-preparations for their lives. The data is basic material to search effective alternatives for social welfare for the aged.
The purpose of this study was to empirically survey the life of the aged of a middle sized city, Iksan City, and compare it with the national one.
For the purpose, 98 old aged in Iksan City were sampled and interviewed to collect informations about the life of the aged for a questionnaire. On the basis of previous studies on current conditions of the aged, the questionnaire consists of 30 items. Data was collected using questionnaires and analyzed by frequency, X² and t-test.
On the results of this survey, the important facts about preparations and quality of life of the aged are as follows;
First, the most favorite activity of the aged is doing their hobbies, the most important economic preparation for the aged is pubic pensions, and the most effective method of the aged life is savings.
Second, satisfaction with the relationship with the children is high, and satisfaction with economic conditions is low.
Third, the younger, the couples, higher education levels of the life satisfaction scores are higher. And the aged who have higher educational backgrounds are more satisfied with their lives on health, economics, their couples and children.
