This research is primarily aimed to seek for the effects of Integrated Art Therapy on social interaction with children in special classes of elementary school.
In order to improve its social interaction, this Integrated Art Therapy program was performed for 50 minutes per session three times a week from Oct. 20, 2010 to Dec. 8, 2010, during which the program was divided into four periods such as the first, the middle I & II, and the final stage.
For this research, 6 children in the special class of "D" Elementary School in "D" Myun, "H" County was carefully chosen, and its research tool was based on the observation and record of children's behaviors and KSD in accordance with social interaction by McConnell(1991). With each test tool applied to this research, I carefully checked the effects of Integrated Art Therapy on the social interaction behaviors among the related children with Picture Test before and after this program,
The results proven by this research can be summarized as below.
First, this Integrated Art Therapy program gradually increased a positive effect on social initial-behaviors among children in special classes of the elementary school, on the other hand, any negative initial-behaviors were reduced among all children except one.
Second, this program also gradually increased a positive effect on social response-behaviors among children in special classes of the elementary school, on the other hand, any negative response-behaviors were reduced among all children except one.
Third, this program also gradually increased the extended social interaction of children in special classes of elementary school.
Also, from the result of comparison analysis of KSD before and after this program, all of the related children showed much more detailed images in their pictures after program than before program. Furthermore, the children's psychologies such as isolation, shrinking, unstable negativity and avoidance became steady gradually. With the improvement of positive ego-establishment and self-expression, this program seemed to have positive effects on social interaction through reality adaptation and inter-relational activities.
From the result, we can learn that this Integrated Art Therapy program not only facilitates and consolidates social interaction with children in special classes in elementary school but also has a dynamic effect on the relation. In addition, positive changes of its effects could be seen on KSD.
