The purpose of the present study was to examine the degree of agreement between parent’s perception of their children perceived by children and children’s self-acceptance and the relevance about children’s behavior problem such as affective anxiety, aggression, resistance behavior. The subjects of the study were 123 5th grade children in an elementary school in Seoul. Questionnaire were made to evaluate a measure of self-acceptance, parent’s perception reported by their children and children’s behavior.
Following is the outline of the result of this study.
First of all, there were differences between parent’s perception of their children perceived by children and children’s self-acceptance. The Subjects were divided into two groups-agreement group(A) and disagreement group(B). In group B, parent’s perception of their children perceived by childre were more positive than children’s self-acceptance. That is, the results showed that children reported their parents to perceive them more positively.
Second, there were differences about children’s behavior problem according to the degree of agreement between parent’s perception of their children and children’s self-acceptance. Affective anxiety, aggression, and resistance behavior made a difference one after another. If there was a difference between “1" perceived by oneself and “1" perceived by one’s parents, the possibility of behavior problems will increase highly.
Third, the degree of disagreement between parents’ perception of their children and children’s self-acceptance second to be related with children’s behavior problems. Affective anxiety was most related factor and the next one were resistance and behavior aggression.
Last, affective anxiety was deeply influenced by the degree of disagreement between parent’s perception of their children and children’s self-acceptance. As expanding the degree of disagreement between parents’ perception of their children and children’s self-acceptance, children’s problem such as affective anxiety, aggression and resistance behavior tended to be increased.
