This research has a purpose of providing basic materials for improvement of athletic performances by examining relationship between coaching types in accordance with university golf players and athletic performance. To achieve this purpose, I studied coaching types according to demographic characteristics and differences in athletic performances and set relationship model of relationship between coaching types and athletic performances with previous research outcomes and hypothetical models as basis, then, found relationship of influences on following variables.
Research targets were selected from registered players in the Korea College Golf Association and I conducted surveys by following purposive sampling method for 110 university students from Y, K and H universities from July 15 to September 20, 2009, and used these samples from 91 people in the demonstrative analysis.
For data processing, I used program called SPSS 14.0 to study frequency, t-test and One-way ANOVA to analyze differences. If I find any differences, I verified dissimilarities for each groups with Scheffe’s post-test. Moreover, I conducted Exploratory Factor Analysis, and to study relationship between variables, I carried out Correlation Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis.
With above research methods and data analysis results as basis, this research found followings.
First, in the study to find differences in gender types, which is one of the demographic characteristics, and coaching types according to the average scores, I found differences in golf instructors’ coaching types according to their gender and average scores. In other words, gender showed distinctions in monitor, performer, directors and creator types. For average score differences, instructors with average score of 71 strokes were mainly found to be spokesperson, performer, director and integrator types, while encouraging and monitor types had the highest number of people with average 78 strokes and caring and creator types had 74 strokes.
Second, for analyzing contrasts of improvement in athletic performances according to gender types and average scores, I also found distinction in golf coaching types for these characteristics. For the gender, I discovered male students to have a slightly higher improvement in athletic performances when compared to female students, and for average scores, students with 71 strokes as the mean number had higher improvements in the performance.
Third, in the analysis to examine influence of golf instructors’ types over improvement of athletic performances, I explored that there is an impact of instructor types on performance improvement. Integrator, performer and creator types have positive effects over improvements, while spokesperson and director types give negative influences.
