High blood cholesterol level play a role in the development of coronary heart disease in adults. This has been established by many laboratory, clinical, pathologic and epidemiologic studies. A varieties of studies which demonstrated that the atherosclerotic process begins in childhood and is affected by high blood cholesterol level, low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol level, and low high density-lipoprotein cholesterol level. We have already reported the distribution of total serum cholesterol levels, high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels, low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels, triglycerides in 440 primary school children. We conducted a study to determine the relationship between cholesterol level and phygique. blood pressure, obesity in those children showing high cholesterol levels.
      The results were as follows.
      1. High cholesterol (200mg/dl) levels were seen in 49(11.4%) children, low HDL cholesterol levels in 29 (6.14%), High LDL cholesterols in 30 (6.36%), high triglycerides in 19 (4.32%) and high atherogenic index were seen in 43(9.77%) children.
      2. The incidence of high cholesterol levels and high LDL cholesterol levels were statistically significant increased with age but were no statistically significant changes in triglycerides, atherogenic index with age.
      3. A obese child who associated with high cholesterol levels were related with low HDL cholesterol, high triglycerides and atherogenic index significantly.
      4. Positive family history of cardiovascular disease and hypertension were more significantly observed in children. who showed high cholesterol levels.
