Many foreign distribution and food service companies have entered into Korea. With them, POS system, one of their unique management systems, is growing rapidly mainly in distribution and franchise industries.
However, low-invest and small-space take-out franchise shops are not rich enough to buy POS equipment and peripheral devices of 100 ~ 1,000 won, and cannot make room for POS system.
This study has an aim to improve the business environment and curtail job process, requesting product and sales confirming through telephone or facsimile one by one, by proposing the method of POS system establishing that has no limitation on cost and space, mainly for food service and specialized franchise stores whose head offices have ERP system or warehouse.
This study suggest a system proposal that enables shops to sell, request and inspect goods with mobile phone, and head offices to process data collected and refer various analysis data and stock, while excluding POS system for the entire process, from order management to staff management and customer relations.
Mobile POS system can be divided into three areas.
First, Mobile contents: Individuals enter a certain URL into their mobile phones, receive certificates and install mobile contents. Mobile contents can enter and refer the goods'codes that are read by barcode reader and the various data get from user UI, make data in sending/receiving protocol, and transmit to the base station of telecommunication company.
Second, Head office system: Head office system processes the basic materials received in common WEB POS type, and utilize them as materials for marketing and business, and deliver master & reference data to franchises. A different point with WEB POS is the sending/receiving server. Common WEB POS receives text form data through FTP or HTTP, or stores data directly from DB through WEB server without sending/receiving server. But, Mobile POS sends and receives the regular protocol form data through TCP/IP, HTTP, UDP methods.
Third, wireless data communication: It means the wireless data sending/receiving area that uses the regular protocol and the communications between mobile phone and base station and sending/receiving server.
The goods code read by USB port (inner serial) of mobile phone, along with other data entered from mobile contents, is transmitted to the sending/receiving server of telecommunication company through wireless data communication, while the sending/receiving server processes data and stores in head office's DB server.
Such transmitted data is utilized for head office's material through WEB server, and for reference material in franchises (stores) and logistic centers.
However, the contract with telecommunication company should be concluded before contents building. The contract should include the flat fee for packet unit data fee and the opportunity to substitute the outdated mobile phone with new one that can drive contents in low price.
Food service franchise companies and barcode reader manufacturers are already interested in this system proposal. When market has POS peripheral devices that can be controlled by the bluetooth of mobile phone, this system can be established more potentially than common POS.
