The selected works by Daesan Yi Sangjung is found in 7 Books of Daesansunsaengseojeoryo(大山先生書節要) kept at the Advanced Center for Korean Studies and 4 Books of Daesanseojeoryo(大山書節要) kept at the National Library of Korea. Based on the examples of Yi Hwang’s compilation of works by Zhu Xi and Yi Sangjung’s compilation of works by Yi Hwang, Jung Jongro complied the works by Yi Sangjung. Jung Dongchul, who is a descendant of Jung Jongro, wrote Daesansunsaengseojeoryobal(大山先生書節要跋) to clarify that Daesansunsaengseojeoryo was compiled by his great-great-grandfather, Jung Jongro. He also praised how Jung Jongro inherited the ancient sages and taught lessons to later generations. The Daesanseojeoryo of the National Library of Korea contains the letters according to compilation order of Daesanjip(大山集). The Daesansunsaengseojeoryo of the Advanced Center for Korean Studies categories Daesanjip into logic and circumstance of matter and academic logic. The two Seojeoryo materials, including Daesansunsaengseojeoryo and Daesanseojeoryo, reduces the introductory and last parts which deliver greeting, modesty, Lee Sangjung’s personal situation. Instead, they contain the full discourse in the middle part which emphasizes the important points in the logic and circumstance of matter and academic logic. The postfaces of Yijaseojeoryo(李子書節要), Toegyesunsaengseojeoryo(退溪先生書節要), and Daesansunsaengseojeoryo compiled by Yeongnam School’s scholar commonly indicate the criteria for selecting specific works and Pupilship for academic stream of Yi Hwang. The Jung Jijip, Yi Sisu, and Heo Hun who wrote preface and postface of Yijaseojeoryo by Jung Hon described that Korean academic stream transmitted in the order of Zhu Xi, Yi Hwang, Yu Sungryong, Jung Kyungsae, Jung Youngbang, and Junghon. Meanwhile, in the postface of Toegyesunsaengseojeoryo, Jung Jongro and Kim Goeng claimed that academic stream of Lee Sangjung transmitted in the order of Yijae, Yi Hyunil, Jang Heunghyo, and Kim Sungil and connected to Yi Hwang and Zhu Xi. In the postface of Daesanseojeoryo, Jung Dongchul described that Jung Jongro, who selected and compiled the works by Yi Sangjung, followed the ideas of Yi Hwang and Yi Sangjung who complied Jujaseojeoryo(朱子書節要) and Toegyesunsaengseojeoryo. This showed that Jung Jongro inherited the formats of Seojeoryo found in Jujaseojeoryo, Toegyesunsaengseojeoryo, and Daesanseojeoryo. The compilation by Yi Hwang and Yi Sangjung, selecting particular works, and adoption of Seojeoryo formats imply their reverence toward the ancient sages and guarantee of academic vein.
