The aim of a human rights institution for children is to monitor, promote and protect their human rights. Beyond that, individual institutions in different countries vary in their mandate and priorities depending on the existing structures and institutions promoting human rights, the historial context, the particular political situation, and the situation of children. This paper examinedthe successof several existing institutions whose main task is to close the gap between the rights rhetoric and the realities of children's lives, ensuring that rights are translated into law, policy, and practice. The implications of a prior review of existing agencies are discussed.
