Child care is not a personal problem or family problem any more, but a matter of social concern. Child care services for children's healthy growth and development is very important. Recently, the decrease of birth rate is known to have close relations with child care burden. Thus, child care services available for the families are most needed.
In this study, we used Korean Labor and Income Panel Study 5th edition. Our subjects are families who have a child younger than 6 years. We examined their child care service use and influencing factors on the child care use of these families for the preschoolers.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, 45% of preschool children were using child care services. Average time of use was 32.35 hours a week.
Second, we examined influencing factors on the child care use for the preschoolers using tobit analysis. The results showed that the variables such as child age, mother's weekly working time, child care cost per hour, the proportion of the mother's income to the family total income were significantly affecting on the child care use of these families for the preschoolers.
