This study was executed with the aim of finding out how newspaper companies’ survival strategy affects their journalistic values. Newspapers’ survival strategy was divided into three categories ? business diversification, future strategy, and advertising revenue development strategy ? and held in-depth interviews with journalists to see how these strategies affect their coverage and report activities. In regards to business diversification, journalists hoped that a mutually independent management system between the newspaper company and its subsidiaries would be established. As to future strategies, journalists did not believe newspaper company’s forage into new media fields would conflict with their journalistic values. However, they admitted that the advertising revenue development strategy was seriously undermining those values. Also they were conflicting between retaining the values and supporting company management.
