The Pon``gwan in the Roster of Civil Service Examination of the 18th Year of Shaoxing (Shaoxingshibaniantongnianxiaolu, 紹興十八年同年小錄) it is recorded ‘a certain county, a certain prefecture, a certain sub-prefecture, a certain village, and Register in someone``s Official Household Register’(‘某州ㆍ某縣ㆍ某鄕ㆍ某里 某爲戶’). In these records, ‘a certain county, a certain prefecture, a certain sub-prefecture, a certain village’ means the registered place name on the household register and ‘Register in someone``s Official Household Register’ implies the head of the official household register. Korean historians are searching for the origin of the Korean Pon``gwan system in relation to the installation of the local administration system during the late Silla and early Koryo period. But I think Pon``gwan in the Roster of Civil Service Examination of the 18th Year of Shaoxing has a close relation with the origin of the Korean Pon``gwan system.
