인터랙티브 디지털 제품 디자인을 위한 프로토타이핑 도구 및 환경에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 인터랙션 디자인 관련 디자이너들이 기능적 프로토타입(Working Prototype)을 제작할 때 쉽게 활용할 수 있는 저작 도구 MIDAS(Media Interaction Design Authoring System)를 제안하며, 그에 관련된 조사 연구와 사례 연구를 통해 검증된 유용성에 관해 기술한다. MIDAS는 기술적 구현 경험이 부족한 디자이너들이 디지털 아날로그 입 출력 제어, 소프트웨어-하드웨어 통합, 혼합 현실 기술 등을 디자이너들이 사용하는 기존 멀티미디어 제작 환경 내에서 간편히 응용할 수 있게 한다. 디자이너들에게 필요한 인터랙티브 제품 프로토타이핑 도구의 요구 사항을 도출하기 위해 인터랙션 디자인 과정 고찰, 관련 연구 분석, 실무 디자이너 인터뷰를 수행 하였다. 이를 바탕으로 널리 활용되고 있는 멀티미디어 저작 도구인 디렉터와 플래시를 기반으로 프로토타이핑 도구를 개발하였다. 이 도구를 활용하여 다양한 인터랙션 디자인 프로젝트 사례 연구를 진행하였다. 사례연구를 통하여 디자이너들이 기존 디자인 구현 과정에서 겪던 기술적인 어려움들이 MIDAS를 통해 효과적으로 해소함을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 프로토타이핑 도구 및 방법은 인터랙티브 제품 디자인 영역 이외에도 인터랙티브 미디어 아트, 탠저블 인터페이스와 연관된 인간 컴퓨터 상호작용(Human Computer Interaction)분야의 교육 및 연구에도 기여 할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper presents MIDAS (Media Interaction Design Authoring System), an authoring toolkit for designers and artists to develop working prototypes in new interaction design projects. Field research were conducted to identify the requirements and case study of designing new interactive products was done to examine the feasibility of the new tool. MIDAS provides easier ways to integrate hardware and software, to manage a wide range of electric input and output elements and to employ 3D Augmented Reality technology within conventional multimedia authoring tools, such as Director and Flash, which are popularly used by designers. MIDAS was used in case study projects of design education as well as by voluntary designers for evaluation. From the result of case studies, it was found that many design projects were successfully accomplished using MIDAS. Designers who participated in the projects reported that MIDAS not only helped them to concentrate more on ideation but also is very easy to use as they implemented the physical interface concepts without advanced engineering skills. It is expected that MIDAS can also support prototyping in interactive media art, tangible user interface development and related human computer interaction fields.
