In this study, a new variable, level of abstraction(LOA), was introduced and analyzed biology area in the science textbooks in elementary school level. Concepts in textbooks of four grade levels(4∼6) were analyzed. The result indicates that the overall trend of LOA was increasing, but in some textbooks found to be considerably inconsistent, especially, the contents related to the `environment`. This result has some suggestions for the actual teaching and curriculum designing of science concepts in relation to the possibilities of children`s misconceptions and the mental development.
