    This study aimed to investigate meanings of teacher communities and to search mathematics teacher communities in Korea. Two research questions were addressed as follows: 1) What are teacher learning communities? 2) What are the purposes and practices for mathematics teachers participating in learning communities? The meanings of learning communities were studied by reviewing literature, and the practices of the learning communities of mathematics teachers were investigated by a survey. This study selected two learning communities of mathematics teachers in Korea and asked teachers in the communities some questions relevant to their practices. The results described opportunities, purposes, participating time, and difficulties from participating in the mathematics teachers` learning communities.
