Good faith among nations is a major international mechanism that has rarely been discussed in academic circles. Its importance far outweighs the attention it has received because it fuels the conduct of foreign policy and underlies the success or failure of all negotiations. This paper traces the legal aspect and responsibility of all nations under the UN Charter to promote good faith and it suggests that the secretary-general of the UN undertake an initiative to promote good faith as part of his tenure in office.
