      A simple tensile test technique for thin freestanding polymer films was introduced. The freestanding
      polymer film specimens were prepared by spin coating of PMMA solutions onto silicon substrates,
      removing the solvent, and then releasing the film safely by means of distilled water. Preliminary tensile
      tests were successfully done for the PMMA films made from 4 wt% concentration of solutions of two different
      molecular weights Mw = 350,000 and 996,000 g/mol with thicknesses of 1.46 and 1.72 ㎛, respectively.
      The stress–strain behavior under the strain rates of 10, 100, and 1000 με/s exhibited that Young’s
      modulus, yield strength, and tensile strength increased linearly as a function of the logarithm of strain
      rate. The effect of molecular weight on the mechanical properties was discussed. The tensile test method
      proposed in this study was proven to be simple, reliable, and easy to use.
