In the separation of toluene-n-hexane mixture by the emulsion-type liquid membrane, studied were the effects of the following factors on the separation factor : volume fraction of toluene in feed, surfactant concentration, volume ratio of solvent to feed and glycerol concentration. The separation was most effective at the volume fraction of toluene in feed of 0.3 and the contact time of 5 minutes and the separation factor decreased as the contat time increased. The separation factor decreased with increasing surfactant concentration and increasing contact time. When the volume ratio of solvent to feed was three, the permeation of toluene was most effective, and the sparation factor decreased as the contact time increased. The separation factor was most effective at the glycerol concentration of 30 weight percent.
