Maurice Ravel의 관현악곡에 대한 연구 : Bolero를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

라벨(Maurice Josepf Ravel, 1875-1933)은 드뷔시(Claude Achille Debussy, 1862-1918)와 더불어 인상주의 음악을 대표하는 작곡가이다. 그는 근대 음악 발전에 많은 공헌을 하였는데 특히 그의 관현악 작품들은 관현악 편성의 여러가지 가능성을 보여줌으로써 관현악 발달사에 크게 공헌하였다.
본 논문은 라벨의 관현악곡을 대상으로 하여 라벨만의 독창적인 작곡기법들에 관하여 여러 문헌과 악보를 통해 고찰하고 그의 대표적인 발레 작품 Bolero를 분석한 것이며 분석에 앞서 라벨의 관현악곡에 나타난 전반적인 특징 -각각의 개별악곡에 나타난 형식, 선율·화성·리듬의 특징, 관현악법 기법- 을 종합하였다.
Bolero의 형식은 5부 형식이고 두개의 주선율이 5개의 부분에서 연속적으로 순환한다. 화성은 3화음을 비롯하여 7, 9, 11,13화음들이 사용되었고 3화음의 병진행이 나타나며 조성은 C장조에 서 E장조로 단한번 전조된다. 주선율의 리듬은 싱코페이션이 특징적이고 마디내 2, 3박을 강조하여 불규칙적인 액센트를 유발시키며 두 주제 선율과 함께 리듬도 이 곡 전체에서 끊임없이 반복된다. 주선율과 Bolero 리듬이 반복될 때 악기수가 증가되면서 악기음색을 변화시켜 구조상의 단조로움을 피하고 있고, 다이나믹은 pp에서 출발하여 점차 cresendo되어 ff에 이르는 구성이다.

Maurice Ravel(1875-1937) has established a unique musical world through his impressionistic expression influenced by Debussy's unorthodox harmony and distinct classical rules. He has come to be regarded unquestionably as a master of orchestral writing. His scores reveal a sensitivity to instrumental color and idiomatic technique that even exceeds the 'recherches instrumentals' of Debussy, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Strauss.
This study examines Ravel's orchestral works and their characteristics through analysis of form, melody, rhythm, and harmony in 'Bolero' which belongs to Ravel's later works among his orchestral collections.
'Bolero' has two themes which continuously run through in five parts. This orchestral work is constructed by triple counter point with repeating rhythmic theme, two melodies, and ostinato. While keeping a monotonous melody, the cumulative growth in sonority constructed by the addition of instrument produces an almost hysterical tension while leads to a tremendous climax at the end.
As a conclusion, Ravel had made a great contribution to the history of music by creating a unique musical world represented in his eminent orchestral writings.
