청소녀 사이버성매매 메커니즘에 관한 연구 : 인터넷 채팅 사이트를 중심으로 = The Mechanisms of Girls' Prostitution through Cyber Space:Feminist Perspectives on Internet Chatting Sites

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 사이버 공간을 통한 청소녀 성매매의 메커니즘을 분석하는 것이다. 구체적으로는 인터넷 채팅 사이트 <버디버디>와 <세이클럽>을 중심으로 사이버 성매매가 이루어지고 있는 과정을 살펴보고, 이를 통해 청소녀들이 현실/가상공간을 횡단하면서 어떻게 주류 이데올로기에 포섭되고 협상하는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 분석의 결과, 사이버 채팅 공간은 누구나 손쉽게 접근할 수 있는 열린 공간으로 청소녀들과 남성들 간의 만남을 매개하는 기능을 하고 있었다. 이들은 나이, 젠더, 계급, 시/공간의 분할선을 횡단하며 접속을 시도하고 ‘만남’을 거래한다. 그러나 사이버 공간은 자유롭고 자율적인 사이버 주체들 간의 욕망의 탈주가 이루어지는 장이 아니라, 성별화된 욕망과 계급화된 젠더가 교차하는 위계적 공간이자 남성지배의 경제, 남근지배의 원칙이 작동하는 포르노그래픽적인 공간으로 ‘현실’ 성매매와 연관된다. 가정과 사회 속에서 강요받았던 성별화된 역할이 사이버 공간에서의 성애적 역할과 교차하는 과정을 묵도하면서 청소녀들은 ‘주체’로 호명되지만, 동시에 자본주의, 가부장제 한국사회에서 여성의 몸/성이 어떻게 인식되고 취급되고 있는지 스스로 체화해간다. 따라서 사이버성매매는 보호주의(피해자)/자발적 성거래(위반자)라는 이분법적 틀에서 벗어나, 사회적 안전망 ‘밖’에 놓여 있는 청소녀들에게 ‘닫힌’ 노동시장의 문제, 점차 증가하는 빈부격차의 문제, 정상가족 이데올로기에 대한 비판과 성별화된 욕망, 성적 거래의 기저에 놓여 있는 권력관계에 대한 여성주의적 질문과 개입을 필요로 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper seeks to analyze girls' prostitution through cyber space, focused on internet chatting sites which function as a site of resistance against and negotiation with their age, class, gender, and sexuality. Cyber space as a virtual reality mediates an encounter between girls and adult men and leads to ‘real’ prostitution. Particularly on chatting sites, men and girls bargain with each other about the price of the young women's body and sexuality across the boundaries of age, class, gender, and virtual/reality.
However, chatting sites are not just a space of neutral and natural desire for subjects of free will, but instead, a site of gendered sexuality and gendered class for people in an asymmetric relationship attributed to limited resources and material conditions. Such unequal power relationships construct and recontruct the meaning and practice of their ‘encountering’ and ‘bargaining’ on the pornographic cyber space, which lead to off-line prostitution. Throughout the process, lower-class girls come to realize and embody how women's body and sexuality are treated and transacted in a capitalistic (consumer) as well as a patriarchal society.
As a result, the increasing class gap under neoliberal capitalism, the closed labor market for teenage girls, and the normative ideologies of family, gender, and sexuality should be examined and challenged by feminist research and practice in order to bring an understanding of the ‘real’ picture of cyber prostitution beyond the paradigm of protection/exclusion, victim/violator/voluntary prostitute.
