(Background and Purpose)China`s dramatic economic development following the economic reforms enables Chinese consumers to be in psychological consumption stage beyond physical consumption stage . Along with rapid economic development, the field of art is changing fast. Illustration art is particularly gaining popularity as a form of expression preferred by modern artists. The development of economy and art is giving rise to a new culture. Due to this change, complex spaces combining cafes and installation art demonstrate product consumption and cultural consumption at the same time. Further, the number of complex spaces is increasing. Yunnan Province is the first coffee plantation in China and is an important economic development zone with high potential. (Method) This study collected the data on famous cafes from Chinese tourism website and selected the cafe in Yunnan Province to examine the role of installation art. As discussed in chapter two, this study examined previous research on the characteristics of installation art and the cafe space and reclassified the items of assessment standard after reviewing the individual characteristics of the cafe. Next, for the case analysis, given in chapter three, this study analyzed data collected from a survey and calculated the average value using descriptive statistics. For the purpose and assessment of the survey, another survey was conducted on a five-point scale using diagram analysis. Lastly, chapter four comprehensively summarizes the study and provides conclusions. (Results) First, the functional characteristics of the cafe were evenly developed. Among those characteristics, communication, healing, and nomad were relatively weak. Second, an interrelation between interactivity and temporality among the traits of installation art was found. Furthermore, both the traits of cultural consumption and healing were closely related to many traits of the cafe space. Third, there was a correlation between the traits of installation art and the cafe space. The interactivity influenced the trait of communication, and both were found to be connected . (Conclusions) A modern cafe does not only serve food and beverages but is also a complex space where a consumer can perform various cultural consumption activities. In Yunnan province in China, most of the cafes operate in a fixed place for a long time as a facility, thus, the movement, transformation, and establishment of a cafe are not easy. To solve this issue, this study suggests the establishment of a unique cafe space with installation artworks in line with the current trends. Additionally, this study warrants a qualitative study on cafe spaces as the said cafe demonstrated a quantitative growth. Moreover, although the Chinese cafe achieved a quantitative growth, the qualitative aspects also need to be considered, and more studies need to explore this further.
