Stainless steel is the basic material of the modern steel industry. The optimum spot welding conditions
for the STS are examined. STS that was welded with spot conditions of 5V-5s, 5V-6s, 5V-7s and
6V-3s was heat treated under different conditions to observe microstructure and identify the changing
mechanical properties. After welding under the aforementioned conditions, the specimens that were not
heat treated, sensitive heat treatment, and solution heat treatment were divided into specimens. If you
look at the microstructure of the specimen without heat treatment, it has typical austenite structure.
Dendrite structure containing large quantities of δFerrite was observed on the welds. A large amount of
δFerrite reduces hardness and corrosion resistance. This indicates that the weld on the specimen that
were not heat treated has reduced hardness and corrosion resistance. Sensitive heat treatment causes
chromium carbide generated in the crystal system to become relatively susceptible to corrosion. This
reduced hardness and tensile strength. When solution heat treatment is carried out, growth of
crystallization occurs and crystallization becomes premature. So The hardness and tensile strength of the
STS decrease.
