This paper aims at suggesting the need for the grammatical description and its education of Bahasa Cia-Cia (the Cia-Cia language). It has been over a year since Bahasa Cia-Cia began to be taught in Korean Alphabet in an elementary school in Baubau City in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Yet, so far there is only one teaching material, Bahasa Cia-Cia 1 (Lee Ho Young, Hwang Hyo Sung, Abidin, eds. 2009). Yet, this textbook contains a few shortcomings. For instance, it does not have a simple explanation for the structures of Bahasa Cia-Cia at all. This means that the education of Bahasa Cia-Cia has been conducted without teachings of grammar. This problem is caused by the non-existence of the substantial reference grammar of Bahasa Cia-Cia. In order to investigate these problems, the author examines previous studies on the Cia-Cia language from a critical perspective. The author then asserts that the structural description of the Cia-Cia language should be approached with an aim to publish grammar textbooks rather than being remained as a theoretical academic description. In addition, the author suggests the publication of the textbooks, which are written both in the Roman and Korean alphabets.
