In modern society, education plays a critical role not only in the transmission of knowledge but also in the holistic development of individuals and the formation of values. However, education centered around competition has led to the loss of humanity and division, highlighting the need for Christian teachers to play a pivotal role in addressing these challenges. This study explores educational methods to enhance the missionary competency of Christian teachers by using the "Education and Mission" course offered at the Graduate School of Education, E University, as a case study. The experiences of 14 participants were qualitatively analyzed.
The findings of this case study are summarized as follows: First, the case demonstrated the significant role of the course in fostering spiritual growth and enhancing practical missionary competencies. Specifically, pre-service teachers strengthened their practical skills, while in-service teachers developed changes in attitude and values, leading to an enhancement of their missionary capabilities. Second, team teaching and reflective writing were identified as important tools for increasing educational effectiveness.
This study presents criteria for developing a missionary education model that can be applied in various educational settings while maintaining Christian identity. It also offers new hope and possibilities for the redefinition of Christian teachers' roles and the continuous development of educational mission work. It is expected that this research will make a significant contribution not only to the education in Christian schools but also to the normalization of church school education.
