Robert Alexander Schumann(1810〜1856) is one of representative composers of German romantic music. <Dichterliebe op.48> is his first significant song cycle in 1840 referred to as ‘The year of song’, schumann composed more than 168 art songs. He expressed romantic style by using ambiguity of the tonality with the variety of harmony, arpeggios, syncopation rhythm, and leaping notes. Schumann composed more romantic and lyrical art songs than Schubert who considered as a father of the romantic art songs with these characteristics.
Heine is a lyric poet in German Romanticism. His poem was chosen by many composers including Schumann who love and have deep sympathy in them. In Schumann’s work <Dichterliebe op.48>, he selected 16 poems from part2- <Lyrisches Intermezzo>- in 『Buch der Lieder』of poem of Heine.
In this study, at first, studied about the rhyme scheme of the German poem. and then analysed songs focus on the 3 points –long note, high note, final note -. Based on this, found out correlation between poetic rhythm and musical melody.
<Dichterliebe op.48> is expressed the poem as beautiful music, and precisely precisely the unity of music and poetry. In this music work, Poet and Composers showed well–cooperation, and were a good partner.
