The objectives of this study are to identify employment centers in Seoul for 1981 and 1996 and to examine the dynamics of urban spatial structure. Using a nonparametric method for identifying employment centers, we have identified 4 subcenters in 1981 and 6 subcenters in 1996. Among 4 subcenters in 1981 two subcenters are classified as primary subcenters that have city-wide influence in terms of employment density, while two other subcenters are identified as local peaks. However, Seoul has turned into more polycentric urban form in 1996 with 3 primary subcenters and 3 secondary (local peak) subcenters. Another interesting finding is that the distances between CBD and subcenters range from 8Km to 12Km, implying that CBD and subcenters in Seoul seem to have their own areas of influence. 키 워 드 다핵도시공간구조, 비모수, 국지가중회구, 부도심Keywords Nonparametric, Locally Weighted Regression, Subcenters
