다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Dante is considered to have influenced Eliot, as Eliot himself admitted it. However, the problem is that we cannot measure the effect of this influence. Dante’s tract is also observable in almost all of Eliot’s poems. In addition, Eliot praises and tries to imitate Dante’s writing methods. This paper investigates Dante’s effect on Eliot’s poetic techniques. Above all, Dante had been an influence on Eliot’s early and last poems. Especially, Eliot is concerned about the language and emotion of Dante, and demands that a poet should constrain his emotions like Dante. In language, Eliot asks of following the predecessor like Dante. As a result, Eliot and Dante emphasize literary tradition.
