비판의 요건으로서의 교양과 실증 그리고 윤리 : 곽광수 교수의 김현 비판 검토, 혹은 김현의 서양이론 변용 알고리즘을 제대로 이해하기 위한 샘풀이 = An Examination about the Kwak kwang-soo’s Criticism Against Kim Hyun

Three months later of the death of Kim Hyun(June 1990), Kwak Kwang-soo, one of companions of the deceased, have criticized the Kim Hyun’s way of the reception and the interpretation of the literary theory and the philosophy of the science of Gaston Bachelard. The main point of his criticism was that Kim Hyun’s comprehension of bachelardian theory had distorted it, caused by the misreading of the arguments of our great philosopher of the imagination. Kwak’s criticism has influenced broadly on the researchers of Korean Literature grounded on the reputation that Kwak was the one who knows most about Bachelard. Furthermore, it has led to the negative evaluation about Kim Hyun’s literary theory. I have not agreed with the Kwak’s assertations even from the first. But considering the properly Asian attitude not to put in the problems between persons that equally had taught me in School, I have kept the silence. However, looking backward last 30 years, I realize, my humble attitude has let the misunderstanding about Kim Hyun’s literary theory spread recklessly and there is an urgent need to rectify this atmosphere. So in this article, I try to prove that Kwak’s insistence against Kim Hyun is absolutely wrong, through three stages of investigation: (1) Wrong construction of the problem by the defective citation from Kim Hyun’s statements; (2) ignorance or misunderstanding of the Key concepts of Bachelardian theory, i.e. ‘deduction’, ‘induction’, and ‘enveloppement’; (3) ignorance about the abundant examples which Bachelard had applied himself of the concept ‘enveloppement’ both in the theory of imagination and in the philosophy of science in Bachelard’s works. I hope that this demonstration serves as momentum where the misunderstanding about the Kim Hyun’s reception of Bachelard would be resolved and the researchers’ weird attitude towards the Occidental theory would be corrected.
