      표암 강세황의 연행체험과 문예활동 = A study on Pyeoam Kang Seihwang`s Travel experience to Beijing and Literary activity

      This study is focused on Pyeoam Kang Seihwang`s travel experience to Beijing and arts. Pyeoam traveled to Beijing, China in October, 1784 at his age of 72 with Lee Hwiji and Lee Taeyeoung for attending celebration of Qianlong Emperor. Although there were many people traveling to Beijing, the people well versed in art and literature like Pyeoam were very rare in the Joseon Dynasty. On this account his traveling to Beijing has a very important meaning in cultural history. So I reconstructed Pyeoam`s traveling to Beijing and tried to find out his concrete literary activity and characteristic. For this I initially collected research materials related to traveling to Beijing including Pyeoamyugo, secondarily rebuilt Pyeoam`s unclear Beijing travel schedule with reference to Hogojae Kim Nakseo`s Bukjeongrok who traveled with Pyeoam. Hogojae also traveled to Beijing with Jeongsa Lee Hwiji. He documented the diary styled detail travel schedule, this could play influential roles in finding out Pyeoam`s unclear Beijing travel schedule, Poetry and Paintings. As Pyeoam`s life can be explained in the code of Poetry- calligraphy-Painting, these codes are also found in literary activity in Beijing traveling. So I summarized his literary activity into three categories. First one is the revelation of poetry recitation and interest in painting and writings. Pyeoam wanted to make the book containing the poetry shared with his suite like Jungsa or Seojungkwan, for celebrating. And he gave it to his suite as a gift, expressing his depressed mood. Second one is relationship with Chinese writer and art criticism. Pyeoam exchanged poetry and prose with Chinese Sagangeo, Sajeongnam, Pakmyung, Hwalim and Kimgan. And also he paid attention to Chinese science movement, sanctuary, and western painting. Third one is the watching and drawing of Chinese beautiful scenery. Whenever Pyeoam saw the beautiful scenery, he drew a landscape painting. He drew plants in his own style like peony, orchid, daffodil, sweetbrier, and forsythia as well as beautiful scenery like Gyemunyeonsoo, Seosan, Gojooksung, and Yeongdaebinghi. He drew a picture in detail like a photoand wrote poetry by implication. Although he didn`t leave a record of traveling to Beijing, he left a painting which is stronger than it, so we can find out his aspect of traveling to Beijing and literary activity.
