Park Eun-Shick (1859-1925) who lived in the age of civilization in our country was a confucianist, journalist, educational philosopher, historian.
He gained great fame by Chu Hsi School in the time of learning (1859-1898), advorcated educational strenuous effects and the thoughts of defense of the fatherland through education by speech and educational activity developing the patriotic campaign of enlightment after his forties, inspired the consciousness of national pride by working history looks to enhance nationalism during exile in China after the Korea-Japan annexation, in 1910. He was also independence campaigner who led the provisional government as the second president of Korean provisional government.
His basic stream of thought was Confusian philosophy of Chu Hsi School, but recognizing the reality of our country and foreign country thought the activity of speech and education, and being influenced by the theory of social evolution which was Western thought and by the thought of strenuous efforts of Yong Ch-in Ch-ah, he made great conversion from Chu Hsi School to the doctrines of Wang Yang-Ming, and therefore, he developed his educational thought on the basis of the doctrines of Wang Yang-Mingo.
Taking the heighest aim of education at reaching the intuition of the doctrines of Wang Yang-Ming, he made it the philosophical foundation of moral personalism and democratic education.
And also taking the reality training as the methodological principles of education, he made it the philosophical foundation of the educational thoughts of practical science and nationalism.
In the process of educational thoughts, harmonizing the thoughts which was in antagonistic relationships one another, he called moral personalism and democratic education thought the reality (or the noumenon); and also called the educational thought of practical science and nationalism the action.
The modern meaning in these educational thoughts of Baek-Arn is as follows: the first, he had the standpoint to base on the old and harmonize it with the new in accepting new thought and new knowledge, the second, harmonized the Oriental science of moral, benevolence and righteousness with the Occidental science of technique by the logic of the reality, the action. Korean educational philosophy was very popular at this time, and so his educational thought could give much imp etus to us.
