죄악과의 전쟁―초기 한국 구세군의 금주 담론을 중심으로― = The war against sins―focusing on the early korean salvation army―

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aims to confirm the activities of the early Korean Salvation Army by analyzing the contents of Salvation Newspaper. Unlike the tendency of previous studies to identify the Salvation Army in the flow of temperance movement in Korean Protestantism, the discussion is focused on the Salvation Army’s History. First, we look at the situation in England at the time of the emergence of the Salvation Army and look at why abstinence became a major discipline. In order to understand the activities of the Salvation Army who settled in Korea, it reveal the characteristics of Geumjuho, especially among the discourses of the Salvation Newspaper published in 1909.
Through symbolic illustrations, major Bible verses, and Geumju Song, the Salvation Army showed strong religious characters. It can also be confirmed that this had a great influence on the temperance movement at that time.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 한국 초기 구세군의 금주 담론을 『구세신문』 등의 내용을 분석하여 확인하고자 한다. 한국 개신교 절제운동의 흐름 속에서 구세군을 파악하는 선행연구들의 경향과 달리, 구세군사를 중심으로 그 논의를 전개하고자 하였다. 우선 구세군 출현 당시 영국의 상황을 살피고 금주가 왜 주요한 규율이 되었는지를 살펴보았다. 이후 한국에 정착한 구세군의 활동을 파악하기 위해서 1909년 발행된 『구세신문』 금주호의 특징을 밝혔다. 금주를 상징하는 명확한 삽화와 주요한 성경구절 그리고 금주가 등을 통해서 구세군은 스스로의 종교성을 강력하게 드러내고 있었다. 또한 이는 당시 개신교 금주운동에 큰 영향을 주었음을 확인할 수 있었다.
