황순원의 단편소설 「그늘」에 대한 담화 기호학적 분석 = Discourse semiotics analysis on Hwang Sun-won’s short novel “Shade”

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In the last century, French semiologiste A. J. Greimas constructed a theory to scientifically analyze texts thereby founding narrative semiotics, and published the Semiotics of Passions in collaboration with his best pupil J. Fontanille. Narrative semiotics and semiotics of passions are structural semiotics, and both studied static systems and universal and abstract structures. In 1999, Fontanille felt limitations in regarding discourses as being static and stationary and considered discourses as being dynamic and active to present discourse semiotics. This semiotics again studied utterance that had been excluded thus far and attached importance to locutionary acts and enunciation. From the viewpoint of active discourses, all studies of semantic actions can be said to maintain close relationships with utterance.
At the phenomenological level, discourse instances carry out activities necessary for the realization of discourses, including a few characteristics such as location, field, and actants. The first activity is the positioning of the body and is used as the sourse of all actions. The second activity is reference, dissociation and interlocking action. When positioning has been performed in the first stage, the reference acts. The dissociation has the orientation of disjunction while the interlocking action has the orientation of connection. At the rhetorical level, the subject refers to a subject that has with judgment and abstractive power, while the non-subject refers to a subject who cannot act independently. Position actants refer to the source and the target of an action before it becomes a subject or an object, and provides the initial rule and orientation that precede the emergence of a semantic action.
Shade is a work written by Hwang Soon-won under Japanese colonial rule, and well depicts the lonely figure of human beings that changed in response to the trend of the times in the dark reality of our nation in 1941. This paper examined the psychological novel Shade from the perspective of discourse semiotics, focusing on phenomenological and rhetorical dimensions to prove the potential and validity of the theory.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

지난 세기에 프랑스의 기호학자 그레마스는 텍스트를 과학적으로 분석하기 위한 이론을 구축하여 서사 기호학을 창시하였고, 수제자 퐁타닐과 공저로 『정념의 기호학』 을 발간하였다. 서사 기호학과 정념 기호학은 구조 기호학으로 모두 정적인 체계, 보편적이고 추상적인 구조를 연구대상으로 하였다. 그레마스 사후, 1999년에 퐁타닐은 담화를 정태적이고 고정된 것으로 보는 것에 한계를 느끼고, 역동적이고 활동적인 것으로 고찰하여 담화 기호학을 발표하였다. 이 기호학은 그동안 배제되었던 발화를 다시연구대상으로 삼고 발화행위와 발화작용에 중요성을 부여하였다. 활동 중인 담화의 관점에서 의미작용의 연구는 모두 발화와 밀접한 관계를 유지한다고 할 수 있다. 현상학적 차원에서 담화 현동태는 담화의 실현에 필요한 활동을 수행하는데, 위치, 장, 행위소 등 소수의 특성을 포함한다. 첫 번째 활동은 위치 결정이며, 모든 작용의 기점으로 사용된다. 두 번째 활동은 지시, 분리작용과 연동작용이다. 첫 단계에서 위치 결정이 수행되면 지시가 작동하여 분리작용을 한다. 이 작용은 이접의 방향성을 띠며 연동작용은 연접의 방향성을 띤다. 수사학적 차원에서 주체는 판단력과 추상력을 지닌 주체를 말하며, 비-주체는 자주적 행동을 하지 못하는 주체를 가리킨다. 위치 행위소는주체와 대상이 되기 전에 행위의 기점과 목표를 말하는데, 의미작용의 출현에 선행되는 최초의 규칙과 방향을 제공한다. 「그늘」은 황순원이 일제 치하에서 집필한 작품으로, 1941년 우리 민족의 어두운 현실 상황에서 시대의 변화를 수용할 수밖에 없는 인간의 고독한 모습이 잘 묘사되어 있다. 본고에서는 담화 기호학 이론이 「그늘」과 같은심리 소설에도 적용가능한지 타진해 보고자 하였으며, 특히 이론의 현상학적 차원과수사학적 차원을 중심으로 고찰하였다.
