민박등급제도에 관한 탐색적 연구 = Exploratory Study on Adopting Home Stay Rating System

Home stay in Korea has been well accepted as a form of accommodation among travellers but there has been lack of information with regards to the available service and quality standard and no proper system or guideline has been found. Therefore it is the objective of this study to investigate the current status of home stay and offer a guideline and suggestion after reviewing related literatures and cases in other countries. Findings from the studies suggested that adopting rating system for home stay is worth considering. The results are as follows; firstly, it was found from the case review of other countries that the rating system for home stay in other countries was categorized into five different levels. Secondly, 7 different areas of evaluation existed - basic facilities, rooms, service, leisure facilities, types of home stay, garden, parking lot. These 7 areas contained number of sub criteria for evaluation. Thirdly, minimum standard for each level in terms of basic requirement should be met and fourthly, after evaluating 7 different areas, a level would be given to each home stay based on the total points received. Further study needs to be focused on the comparison of cases in other countries offering home stay and guideline and draw a suggestion and guideline fitted for home stays in Korea.
