Animations are the main focus of this study due to the following reasons. First, North Korean animation holds an important place in realizing the future educational purposes that are promoted by the North Korean Regime. Second, through the closely interconnected relationship of the mass media and literature, it was judged that it would be possible to confirm the qualitative changes and socio-historical aftereffects of literature that have been brought about by the mass media. Third, while policy guidelines have generally been demonstrated to target adults, children have been clearly prioritized and stipulated as the target audience within the extent of `Nationalism`. Thus it is possible to confirm the influence and developing process of the “nationalist“ dialogue on literature and film. The primary purpose of this study is in revealing the influence that the changing process of North Korea`s “nationalist” dialogue has had on literature and film through North Korean animation. The secondary purpose of this study is to examine the point of transition that occurs when the series is transferred from print media to film media. Under the premise that “patriotism” was the groundwork in restoring “nation”, within the process of examining the establishing process towards Chosun Ethnic Nationalism and the calling of “nation”, the changing process of the “nationalist” dialogue and the influential relationship between film and genre that the “nationalist” dialogue had on each genre was observed. Also, this study aimed to investing the purpose of restring “nationalism” that was against the national ideology. North Korea needed to recreate the The Imperishable History series, which was created for the purpose of constructing tradition and education of the people, by diversifying its type of media, to maintain its purpose and survive as an educational book. One aspect of media utilization by North Korea can be seen through the successful cases of The Boy Commander and Star of Chosun, and it is possible to examine transfiguration, differences between films, and slight changes within North Korea society, throughout the series The Imperishable History.
