National R&D Research Institute's Management of Laboratory Research Notebook

To perform national research and development project, recording and managing the research notebook that contains the process of national research is one of the most important research records. Every time a new technology is developed, the probability of a dispute over ownership of the technology also increases. The role of research notebook is very important not only in terms of research ethics and records management but also intellectual property protection. The purpose of this study is to investigate the status of research notebook managed by the government - funded research institutes in the land and transportation sector and to propose necessary research notebook management manuals in order to carry out national research. And finally, to suggest a research notebook management manual.

First of all, each research institute analyzed whether or not detailed criteria for writing and managing research notes were prepared and operating through information disclosure request. Second, a questionnaire survey on the management of research notebook through a government-funded research institutes in the field of land and transportation. Lastly, suggested a 'Research notebook management manual(draft version)' through the guidelines of writing and managing research notebook that are operated by each institution.

To actively develop national science and technology in Korea, it is also very important to keep up with the R&D technology. In order to do so, it is very important that the participants researchers, research managers, and research document administrators are aware of the necessity and consciousness of writing and managing research notebooks. Therefore, guidelines for the management of research notebooks should be strengthened to recognized the importance of writing and managing research notebooks at national level.
