This study examines the impact of organization capital on corporate credit risk using credit default swap (CDS) premiums as a market-based measure of default risk. Organization capital, defined as firm-specific intangible assets embedded in internal processes, coordination mechanisms, and learning systems, is expected to enhance operational stability and reduce cash flow uncertainty, thereby lowering perceived credit risk. Using a panel of U.S. publicly listed firms from 2006 to 2018, we construct organization capital based on SG&A expenditures and estimate its effect on CDS premiums within a panel regression framework. To address potential endogeneity concerns, we employ a two-stage least squares (2SLS) approach using industry-level organization capital as an instrumental variable. Our results show that organization capital is significantly and negatively associated with CDS premiums, and this relationship remains robust after controlling for endogeneity. Moreover, the credit risk-reducing effect of organization capital is more pronounced for firms with higher credit ratings and during the global financial crisis period. These findings suggest that organization capital functions as a structural asset that mitigates credit risk not only in normal times but also under heightened market stress. This study contributes to the literature by linking organization capital to market-based credit risk pricing and by highlighting the role of intangible organizational assets in shaping corporate credit risk.
