North Korea had not been responsive to any overtures for dialogue, but on January 10, its military spokesperson released a statement of condemnation accusing the South Korean government of sending an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) into its airspace. The statement claimed that South Korean UAVs took off from Jeokseong Township in Paju City on September 27, 2025 and from Songhae Township in Ganghwa County, entering the North Korean airspace to conduct surveillance activities. The statement also condemned South Korea as “the most hostile enemy and a target that [North Korea] would surely destroy if provoked.”
