초· 중등학생의 “한국인” 정체성과 다문화 수용성

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 국민 국가의 탈영토화가 급속히 진행되는 과정에서 초⋅중등학생을 대상으로 한국인 정체성과 다문화 수용성 간의 관련성을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 슐만의 이론을 활용하여 민족 정체성을 종족적, 문화적, 시민적 요인으로 구분하였다. 다문화 수용성에 대해서는 다문화 지향성,다문화를 위협으로 인지하는 정도, 다문화 법⋅제도적 지원에 대한 태도 등으로 나누어 측정하였다. 분석 결과, 우리나라의 초⋅중등학생들은 시민적, 문화적, 종족적 요인 순으로 한국인 정체성을 규정하고 있다. 다문화 수용성과 관련하여, 그들은 비교적 양호한 수준의 다문화 지향성과 다문화 법⋅제도적 지원에 대한 태도를 갖고 있으며, 다문화를 위협적 대상으로 인식하지 않는 편이다. 한국인 정체성과 다문화 수용성 간의 관계는 슐만이 가정한대로 시민형, 문화형, 종족형 순으로 다문화 수용성이 높게 나온다. 다만, 기대와 달리 시민형 정체성은 다문화 수용성과 정적 상관 관계를 갖지 않는다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is aimed to examine how the Korean nationality and multicultural acceptability among elementary and middle school students are related as the deterritorialization of the Korean nation-state rapidly progresses. For that purpose, this study utilizes Shulman`s model of national identity divided into ethnic, cultural and civic components. Regarding multicultural acceptability, this study measures it in terms of multicultural orientation, multicultural threat and multicultural policy. The data analysis finds that elementary and middle school students tend to define the Korean nationality less by ethnic components than by cultural ones. The civic elements are most emphasized as a necessary requirement for Korean nationality. By showing multicultural orientations, holding attitudes against multicultural threat, and supporting multicultural policies to some extent, students are found to have some multicultural acceptability. As Shulman assumes, civic, cultural and ethnic identities in order ranked high in multicultural acceptability. Yet, the finding shows unexpectedly that even civic identity is negatively related to multicultural acceptability among elementary and middle school students.
