The stress of modern life leads to frequent mental health problems, and people increasingly use tourism to relieve physical and mental fatigue. Natural attractions can enhance tourists' well-being with their decompression and recovery effects, which affects their subsequent behavioral intentions. Therefore, tourist destinations need to pay attention to restorative needs. However, related research is still in its infancy, and the influencing mechanism and mediating variables still need to be further explored.
Under the guidance of attention restoration theory and stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) theory, this paper uses tourists' well-being as a mediating variable to explore the impact of tourists' restorative environmental perception on their post-visit behavioral intentions, and takes Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, a world-famous tourist destination, as the destination of this study.
This study adopts a quantitative research method, with tourists who have visited Zhangjiajie National Forest Park as the survey subjects, and collects data online by distributing questionnaires. A total of 527 data were collected. After eliminating invalid questionnaires, 434 data were retained. The design process of the questionnaire referred to the existing authoritative measurement scale and was adjusted according to the context and focus of this study. This study first used Excel for basic data processing and eliminate invalid questionnaires. R software was used for descriptive statistics, reliability and validity tests, and structural equation model analysis.
The study shows that the SOR model is suitable for explaining the complex mechanism between restorative environmental perception, tourists' well-being, and post-visit behavioral intentions, and its action path broadens the application of SOR theory in the field of tourism experience. Being-away and fascination in the perception of restorative environment have a significant positive impact on tourists' well-being, while compatibility and extent have nonsignificant impact on tourists' well-being. Compatibility and fascination in the perception of restorative environment have a significant positive impact on post-visit behavioral intentions, while extent and being-away have nonsignificant impact on post-visit behavioral intention. Tourists' well-being has a significant mediating role between all dimensions of restorative environmental perception and post-visit behavioral intentions. The research results can provide new ideas for improving tourists' post-visit behavioral intentions in natural tourist attractions and provide certain guiding significance for the sustainable development of local tourism.
