이 PEO-PHEN-2IMD 하이브리드 코팅은of 1.92 x 10-10 A/cm2의 부식 전류 밀도(icorr)와 2.57 x 106 A/cm2의 가장 높은 상부층 저항(Rtop)을 기록하며 탁월한 차단 특성을 나타냈습니다.

Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) has emerged as a primary surface treatment for enhancing the corrosion resistance of AZ31 Mg alloys by synthesizing thick and strongly adherent oxide layers through localized micro-discharges. The PEO process is frequently used over conventional methods due to its environmentally friendly and superior interfacial bonding. Nevertheless, the inherent porosity of the resulting MgO-based layers provides pathways for corrosive agents to penetrate the coating and attack the underlying substrate, thus compromising electrochemical stability. To overcome this drawback, recent research focus on growing dense hybrid layers via post-treatment to seal the porous structure and inhibit the diffusion of corrosive ions. One effective strategy involves the incorporation of phenophyridine (PHEN) and 2- mtehylimidazole (2-IMD). PHEN facilitates an effective seal by forming insoluble complexes with Mg2+ that precipitate directly onto the PEO surface. Simultaneously, 2-IMD serves as an organic inhibitor, leveraging its N atoms with lone-pair electrons to establish stable coordination bonds with metal centers, effectively acting as an organic linker. To optimize this interaction, potassium hydroxide (KOH) is utilized for pH adjustment, ensuring the solubility and uniform distribution of the organic molecules within the PEO matrix. This PEO-PHEN-2IMD hybrid coating achieved exceptional barrier properties, characterized by a corrosion current density (icorr) of 1.92 x 10-10 A/cm2 and the highest top layer resistance (Rtop) of 2.57 x 106 A/cm2, indicating excellent barrier properties. Beyond corrosion protection, the system demonstrated high photocatalytic efficiency, achieving 100% degradation of methylene blue (MB) within 30 minutes under visible light. Theoretical calculations further elucidated the bonding mechanisms and interaction stability between the organic components and the PEO surface, confirming the multifunctional potential of this structure. The second approach further investigates the incorporation of Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles onto the NiAl layered double hydroxide (LDH) structure to synergistically enhance protection and catalytic efficiency. Utilizing ultrasonic deposition proved superior to hydrothermal methods for this integration by effectively forced ZnO particles into the LDH surface imperfections. This modification significantly improved the barrier effect and increased the density of active sites for redox reactions. The resulting PEO-LDH-ZnO architecture exhibited icorr of 8.09 x 10-11 A/cm2, representing a significant improvement in electrochemical stability. Photocatalytic performances were confirmed through 99% degradation of rhodamine B dye under visible light within 40 minutes. The third approach focuses on the development of a cross-linked organic–inorganic network by modifying the PEO-hydroxide layer (HLs) with guar gum and formaldehyde (GG-FD). This one- step hydrothermal process facilitates the formation of a highly tortuous "labyrinth effect" that physically obstructs the diffusion of corrosive species. The synergistic interaction between the ion-exchanging HLs and the cross-linked GG-FD network creates a self-stabilizing barrier capable of capturing chloride ions (Cl-) before they reach the substrate. Electrochemical analysis of the HLs-GG-FD system revealed a Rp of and maintained an Rtop of 7.57 x 108 .cm2 after 240 hours of immersion. Additionally, this hybrid coating demonstrated rapid photocatalytic activity by degrading 98.6% of indigo carmine in 15 minutes. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations supported these experimental findings, illustrating the restricted Cl- diffusion through the dense GG-FD matrix and confirming the long-term durability of the multifunctional coating on reactive Mg substrates.
