The subjects of this study were 764 students consisting of 284 6th grade students, 239 8th grade students and 242 10th grade students in the Seosan area.
The collected materials from the study were analyzed using SPSS WIN 11.0(Statistical Package for the Social Science Win 11.0) program to see the nurturing attitude of parents, self-esteem and career maturity through t-test and One-way ANOVA. To see the relationship between self-esteem and career maturity, correlation analysis was performed and to see the factors influencing career maturity regression was performed. For post test, Duncan was used.
Major results of the study were as follows:
First, when looking into the nurturing attitude of parents, there were sub categories such as 'affectionate versus hostile' and 'reasonable versus unreasonable' students perceived their parents' nurturing attitude as affectionate and reasonable when they had more conversations with their parents and had more opportunities to travel with them. In particular, when they had higher economic standards and when they had suffered from diseases, they felt the nurturing attitude of their mother and father as affectionate.
Second, when looking into the self-esteem of the students, there were some sub categories such as total self-esteem, social self-esteem, domestic self-esteem and school self-esteem. They showed higher self-esteem when they were elementary school students, when they had higher economic standards, higher academic records and more occasions to travel with their parents. In particular, total self-esteem had something to do with their mothers' education (University Graduates) and whether to have there were domestic problems, and school self-esteem was closely related with agony due to academic records.
Third, in career maturity, career decision was high when they had higher academic records, when they had more conversations with their mothers and when they traveled more frequently with their parents. Career independency was high when their fathers' were professionals, when they were in higher economic level, when they had good academic records, when they had more conversations with their mother and father and when they had more opportunities to travel with their parents.
Fourth, when their fathers had affectionate nurturing attitudes, students showed high career decision and career inclination and low career independency. When their mothers had affectionate nurturing attitudes, students showed high career inclination, but showed low career independency. When their fathers and mothers had unreasonable nurturing attitudes, they showed higher career decision and career inclination but low career independency. In particular, those who had higher total self-esteem and social self-esteem, they had their career decision and career inclination. When they had higher domestic self-esteem and school self-esteem, they had higher career decision and inclination but low career independency.
Fifth, total self-esteem was the most important factor in career decision. Social self-esteem, academic records and conversations with their mothers influenced in that order. Domestic self-esteem was the most important factor to career independency and next was school and total self-esteem were important factors that influenced career independency. Additionally, total self-esteem was the most important factor in career inclination and academic records, school self-esteem, gender and conversations with their fathers influenced career inclination, in that order.
