    This study aims to investigate the vocabulary learning strategies used by Korean EFL university students. The tendency of vocabulary learning strategy use was investigated according to gender, fields of study (Engineering vs. Management), and English reading proficiency levels. The participants of the study were 197 freshmen enrolled in a university in Korea. Data were gathered by means of questionnaire survey and semi-structured individual interviews. The results showed that students used the medium level of vocabulary learning strategies. There were no significant gender and study field differences in overall vocabulary learning strategy use, while there was a significant difference in the use of the metacognitive strategies between high and medium reading proficiency level students. Based on the results, some pedagogical implications for vocabulary teaching and learning were suggested. (Chosun University·Geumgang University)
