MAC(Medium Access Control) protocols in Wirelss ATM play an important role of bandwidth allocation for each terminal to satisfy various requirements of different service classes. In addition, MAC protocols have to increase and maintain the system throughput performance.
To achieve these purposes, this paper proposes a multimedia-supported PRMA protocol. The proposed protocol consists of following two algorithms. First, slot reservation broadcasting(SRB) algorithm which indicates end of terminal service and supports varied traffice classes, is proposed. Second, horizontal buffering algorithm is proposed for Variable Bit Rate(VBR) and Available Bit Rate(ABR) services including bursty packets.
Simulation results indicate that the proposed multimedia-supported PRMA is able to support varied traffic classes with no loss for using a dedicated slot.
