This study examines the challenges facing regional dance in South Korea by drawing insights from the American arts and dance field. Reframing the issue within the broader context of art, culture, and policy, it shows that the American art field recognizes economic and sociopolitical crises and seeks to transcend traditional discipline-oriented approaches, focusing on community and social values. A central concept explored is creative placemaking, advocating a shift towards place-oriented, community-centered, and value- driven arts and culture. This reevaluation challenges long-standing assumptions and prompts the arts field to prioritize community needs over self- preservation. Though specific initiatives for dance or regional dance in the US may not be found, the dance field's willingness to transcend boundaries, emphasizing community value even at the expense of dance, provides a significant lesson for the revitalization of regional dance in Korea. Survival lies in enhancing community quality of life, necessitating a shift from a dance- centric
