      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      ‘Music of the time’(kumak 今樂 in Sino-Korean) is an idea contrasted with ‘music of the ancient’(koak 古樂). According to Confucianists in the Choson 朝鮮 Dynasty period, ‘music of the time’ had been regarded as depraved music of depraved current society. Many of them had shown blind criticism about ‘music of the time’, whereas some of them recognized its value, found upon the teaching of Mencius that “music of the time is not differ from music of the ancient.” The notions of ‘music of the time’ had been inevitably contradictory in that sense.
      After 17<sup>th</sup> century, ‘music of the time’ could acquire social recognition in Choson society, thereby the abundant history of Korean traditional music could be constructed afterward. ‘Right mind’ is the premise for the teaching of Mencius, which means the valuation standard of ‘music the time’ should be ‘mind’ rather than music style. However, the definitive ‘subject’ for the value judgment of music may appertain not to an individual scale but to the social dimension. In conclusion, the notions of ‘music of the time’ in the Choson Dynasty period show that ‘the subject’ of evaluation in the judgment of ‘arts of the day’ is not individual but society.
