이정환 소설에 나타난 해학 연구 = A Study of Humor in Lee Jung-hwan’s Novels

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 이정환의 소설을 중심으로 작품 속에 구현된 해학의 양상과 그 의미를 고찰한 것이다. 이정환의 소설에서 암울한 시대를 살아가는 민중들의 삶은 활력으로 넘쳐난다. 작가가 각박한 세상에서도 꿋꿋하게 삶을 이어가는 민중들의 삶을 따뜻한 해학적인 시선으로 그려내고 있기 때문이다. 이는 작가 스스로도 우여곡절이 많은 삶을 살면서 터득한 세상살이의 철학이 반영된 것이라 할 수 있다. 작가 이정환이 사형수로 감옥에 있을 때 해학은 선택이 아닌 필수였듯이, 그만큼 절망적인 시간들을 보내는 작중 민중들의 삶에서 해학은 필히 요구되는 삶의 방편으로 나타난다. 이정환이 삶의 필수요소로서 특별히 주목하고 있는 해학은 작중에서 다양한 양상으로 구현된다.
이정환 소설의 해학적인 언어와 성에 의한 해학은 민중들의 건강한 생명력을 보여주면서 동시에 비애 섞인 웃음을 유발하며 소설의 해학성을 배가시킨다. 또 한편으로 해학은 경직된 감정을 이완시켜주고 순간적으로 웃음이 가져다준 공포로부터의 해방을 맛보게 함으로써 고통과 불안을 극복할 수 있는 힘을 제공하는 것으로 나타난다. 마지막으로 해학은 부조리하고 모순된 세태를 비판하면서도 원망보다는 이해와 공감의 시선으로 세계를 바라보게 하면서 세계와의 갈등을 완화시키는 것으로 나타난다. 이정환이 소설에서 이런 해학을 구현할 수 있었던 것은 스스로가 해학 감각에 젖은 삶을 살고 있었기에 가능한 것이었다. 평소에 삶의 태도로서의 해학을 지니고 산 이정환이기에 민중들의 삶 저변에 녹아있는, 그들 삶의 원동력인 해학에도 주목할 수 있었다고 볼 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines the aspects and meanings of humor embodied in the work, focusing on the works published by Lee Jung-hwan in the 1970s. In Lee Jung-hwan's novel, the lives of the people living in the dark ages are overflowing with vitality. This is because the writer depicts the lives of the people who continue their lives in a harsh world with a warm humorous look. This reflects the philosophy of living in the world that the writer himself learned by living a life with many twists and turns. Just as humor was not an option but a necessity when writer Lee Jung-hwan was on death row, humor appears to be a necessary way of life in the lives of the people who have such a hard time. Lee Jung-hwan, who has lived a curved life, emphasizes that the only thing that can endure hopeless years in his work with a strong autobiographical personality is "humor."
The humor that Lee Jung-hwan pays special attention to as an essential element of life is embodied in various aspects of the work. The humorous language and sex-induced humor of Lee Jung-hwan's novel shows the healthy vitality of the people and at the same time causes sad laughter, doubling the humor of his novel. On the other hand, humor is shown to provide the power to overcome pain and anxiety by relieving rigid emotions and tasting the liberation from fear brought by laughter at the moment. Finally, humor appears to ease conflicts with the world by criticizing absurd and contradictory situations, but making the world look at it with an eye of understanding and empathy rather than resentment. Lee Jung-hwan was able to implement such humor in the novel because he was living a humorous life. Lee Jung-hwan, who usually lived with humor as an attitude of life, was able to pay attention to humor, the driving force of their lives, which was melted under the people's lives.
